Tanzania Tax Reform Proposal 2021-2022

The Government of Tanzania released a public notice to call for recommendations from different tax stakeholders for 2021/22 Tax Reforms. The Liberty Sparks took an initiative to meet different beneficiaries and managed to host a symposium where different stakeholders from different institutions attended and gave their opinions. The session was conducted on 27th January 2021 in Dar es Salaam. The session on Tax Reforms in Tanzania was held and attends by a wide range of consumers of tax services including the business community, academicians, and civil societies. As per the Ministry of finance and planning, from February 2021 its task force on tax reforms is responsible and committed to preparing the National Budget for the financial year 2021/22. As a number of years ago, it has been a culture for the Government to invited tax stakeholders to give recommendations and if possible to attract changes in doing business in Tanzania. Using World Bank Report on paying Taxes Tanzania score 51.3, Rank 165 below Malawi (Score 62.4, Rank 135), Angola (Score 69.5, rank 106) Kenya (Score 72.8 rank 94) and
Botswana, that (Score 80.0, Rank 59). The scores are the average of each component indicator in the total Tax and contributions rate.

Liberty sparks through stakeholders have made a list of recommendations towards the mission of tax reforms 2021/22. The next chapter describes the recent scenario and proposes the changes in each specific issue
