Event Description:
This policy dialogue explores Tanzania’s regulatory environment through the lens of the Regulation component of the Economic Freedom Index, focusing on how existing rules and administrative procedures affect business operations, job creation, and access to finance.

The event convenes stakeholders from government, the private sector, civil society, academia, and development organizations to reflect on experiences with current regulatory practices, identify key barriers to economic participation, and explore opportunities for reform. Special attention will be given to regulations affecting business freedom, labor market flexibility, and access to credit—core indicators within the Economic Freedom Index.

Through panel discussions, research presentations, and case studies, the forum aims to:

• Assess how regulatory constraints are impacting enterprise growth, especially among SMEs, women, and youth-led businesses.
• Share practical reforms and innovations from within Tanzania and other comparable economies.
• Propose data-informed, inclusive, and actionable solutions to improve Tanzania’s performance in the Economic Freedom Index and create a more enabling environment for inclusive economic development.

The dialogue will also serve as a platform for strengthening collaboration among reform-minded actors and aligning national efforts with broader goals of economic freedom, competitiveness, and inclusive growth.
